UPDATE: Water service restored; Front St. remains closed

February 24, 2012

TROY, N.Y. – The broken water main in South Troy has been shut off, allowing crews to identify the specific location of the damaged pipe. No residents should be without water. The break caused several homes and businesses in the area of Downtown Troy to experience a service interruption or low water pressure. However, service should be completely restored to all residents.

The Congress Street Bridge has reopened to traffic. Front Street remains closed to traffic until further notice. The water main break caused extensive flooding on Front Street.

Because all residents have water service, beginning tomorrow morning, public utility crews will dig into the affected area to identify the specific location and extent of the compromised pipe. Once the damage to the pipe has been assessed, crews will take immediate steps to fix the water main.
