New members named to Troy Housing Authority, Zoning Board
March 04, 2012
TROY, N.Y. – Mayor Lou Rosamilia today announced the appointment of Doris Day to the Board of Directors of the Troy Housing Authority (THA) and Jeffrey Nesich to the City’s Zoning Board of Appeals. Ms. Day replaces Jeff Buell, who stepped down from the THA Board in January. Mr. Nesich will assume responsibilities on the Zoning Board of Appeals, as Delores Hurd’s term has expired.
“I have every confidence that Ms. Day and Mr. Nesich will do fantastic jobs and provide effective leadership for the Troy Housing Authority and Zoning Board of Appeals,” Mayor Rosamilia said. “Their experience, intelligence and connection to the communities they now serve will be highly valuable to the City of Troy in the coming years.”
Ms. Day joins the seven-member board of the THA, the agency charged with providing safe and affordable housing to individuals and families of low and fixed incomes. The Troy Housing Authority manages 1,273 units of low-income public housing, 791 tenant-based housing choice vouchers and 134 project-based housing choice vouchers.
“As a member of the THA Board, I hope to assist in the development and direction of the THA to ensure fiscal controls and accountability to the residents, city, state and federal governing units,” Ms. Day said. “Through this appointment I hope to increase and maintain a level of decent housing and suitable living environment for all individuals who are tenants to the City of Troy.”
Ms. Day has worked for the State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) for 27 years. She has been an active community leader in the City of Troy, having volunteered her time with several city programs including, The Uptown Initiative, North Central Neighborhood Improvement, and the Troy and National NAACP.
Mr. Nesich joins the City’s five-member Zoning Board for a five-year term. The City’s Zoning Board of Appeals reviews applications for projects that have been previously been issued a denial by the City.
Mr. Nesich currently works for the State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) as the departments’ Director of Internal and Fiscal Audits. He has held leadership roles in both the state Division of Budget and Division of Parole, and in 2010 received the Frank C. Moore award for excellence in local government by the American Association of Public Administration.
“I’m excited to work alongside the other members of the Zoning Board of Appeals and appreciate the opportunity to serve the City of Troy,” Mr. Nesich said. “The Zoning Board plays a direct and important role in maintaining the quality of life for Troy residents and ensuring that the City’s treasured landscape, neighborhoods and interests are protected.”
