Frear Park Golf Course will open Friday
March 21, 2012
The City of Troy will open Frear Park Golf Course on Friday, March 23. Unseasonably warm weather during the last several weeks has allowed Parks and Recreation Department crews to conduct maintenance and upgrades on the course. The ability of crews to attend to the course early in the year, combined with the stretch of high temperatures, enabled the City to welcome golfers several weeks ahead of its usual opening.
“We’ve been fortunate that the mild winter and recent warm weather have allowed us to get a jump-start on the golf season,” Mayor Lou Rosamilia said. “Our city crews have worked hard to get the course ready and have made some significant upgrades. The start of spring is an exciting time for golfers across the Capital District, and we’re happy conditions have given us the opportunity to begin the golf season this week in Troy.”
The course will be open at 7 a.m. Friday and close at dusk. Season passes and resident identification cards will be made available for purchase, prior to the official opening of the course, on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For the early part of the 2012 season, golf carts must remain on cart paths. Golfers will be sent out on a first-come, first-served basis. Tee times will be available in the next few weeks.
