TROY, N.Y. – Mayor Patrick Madden announced today that the Troy Fire Department is providing neighborhood cooling stations during the early July heatwave to provide families with a place to keep cool.
A cooling station has been set up near the Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club, and starting tomorrow they will also be available in the following locations:
Lansingburgh
Intersection of 113th Street and 4th Avenue
(Adjacent to Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club)
Little Italy
5th Avenue, Liberty and Hill Streets
(Little Italy Market Place)
South Troy
3rd Street and Canal Avenue
(Canal Street Park)
Mayor Madden said, “This week’s forecast includes temperatures in the 90’s. In response, the Troy Fire Department will be activating neighborhood cooling stations to help residents beat the heat. Municipal splash pads are also available at city parks throughout our community for the enjoyment of Troy families.”
Deputy Mayor Chris Nolin said, “High temperatures can create potentially hazardous conditions for residents, especially young children, the elderly, and those with health issues. Remember to drink water to stay hydrated, use air-conditioned spaces, and limit your outdoor activities during the warmest times of the day. Finally, don’t forget to check in with neighbors, relatives, and those who may be most vulnerable.”
City-operated splash pads will also be open at various city parks from sunrise to sunset, including:
The splash pad at Riverfront Park is open from 10:00am – 8:00pm. Admission is free at all City-operated splash pads. The South Troy Pool also opened on June 30th and is open to the public daily. For more information, visit the Parks & Recreation webpage.
Splash pad facilities and cooling station locations are not actively monitored. Guests should use their best judgment when visiting these locations. Parents are reminded to closely watch their children.
