Mayor Mantello Announces Re-Opening of Campbell Avenue, Update on Construction

City News Posted on August 09, 2024

TROY, NY (August 9) – Mayor Carmella Mantello announced today that Campbell Avenue has officially re-opened.

“We’re excited to see Campbell Avenue, a major corridor in our city, finally receive the long-awaited infrastructural improvements it deserves,” said Mayor Mantello. “We want to thank everyone for their patience as we completed this project. Campbell Ave is once again open for business!”

While Campbell Avenue is now open to traffic, it is important to note that the work is not yet fully complete. There will still be ongoing sidewalk and curb work, as well as some minor tasks within the closure area. Any necessary work will be accompanied by alternating one-way traffic to minimize disruptions. Residents and visitors can expect to see workers on Campbell Avenue for a few more weeks.

"These upgrades are not just about improving the road surface,” Mayor Mantello continued. “They are about enhancing safety, accessibility, and the quality of life for our residents. We are committed to ensuring that Campbell Avenue serves our community well for years to come."

The comprehensive road reconstruction from Franklin Terrace to Inferno involved excavating the road approximately two feet down and rebuilding it from the ground up. This reconstruction included the installation of road fabric, a base course of asphalt, a binder course, and a top course of asphalt. Several spots along the road now have underdrains to improve drainage, along with new catch basins and drainage pipes.

New sidewalks and granite curbing have been installed within the closure area. This work has created a continuous path from Spring Avenue to the sidewalk installed on Mill Street two years ago, which connects down to Burden Avenue. To ensure accessibility for all, ADA-compliant ramps have been added to improve street crossing.

Temporary striping has been applied within the closure zone to ensure safety and maintain traffic flow. Permanent striping, however, will only be done once the entire project is finalized.

The City of Troy appreciates the continued patience and understanding of residents and businesses as we work to complete this project. We encourage everyone to remain cautious and attentive while driving through the area as crews continue their work.
