Mayor Mantello, Boys & Girls Club Capital Area Highlight Successful Summer

Season at South Troy Pool

(TROY, NY) – Mayor Carmella R. Mantello today joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area in celebrating the remarkable success of the 2025 season at the South Troy Pool. This summer, the pool once again served as a safe, welcoming, and vibrant hub for Troy’s youth and families.

Over 800 families registered to use the facility, giving more than 1,000 Troy children and teens a safe place to cool off, share meals, and connect with one another. On average, 125 residents visited the pool each day, with attendance peaking at 300 on the busiest days.

“This summer, the South Troy Pool was more than a place to swim – it was a place of safety, unity, and pride for our community,” said Mayor Carmella R. Mantello. “From lifesaving rescues by our lifeguards, to meals served to youth, to the historic first Teen Night, the pool became a space where Troy families came together. We are so proud of the staff, partners, and organizations who made this season such a success.”

Highlights from the 2025 South Troy Pool season include:

  • Teen Night: With the support of David Gordon and the Total Teen Takeover team, the pool hosted its first-ever Teen Night, drawing more than 100 youth from all across the city.
  • Swim Lessons: Over 80 participants – ranging from 13 months to 37 years old – registered for swim lessons, completing 20 classes and learning vital water safety skills.
  • Lifeguard Rescues: Trained staff performed 19 rescues, underscoring the importance of vigilant lifeguards and strong safety protocols.
  • Community Engagement: Each Thursday, local partners tabled at the pool to connect families with resources, services, and opportunities.

Mayor Mantello applauded the Boys & Girls Clubs staff and lifeguards for their partnership and commitment, noting that the success of the season would not have been possible without their hard work and dedication.

“The numbers tell a powerful story, but what truly stands out is the spirit of community at the South Troy Pool,” Mantello added. “We look forward to building on this momentum and ensuring even more opportunities for Troy families in the years ahead.”

Patrick Doyle, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area said, “The South Troy Pool continues to be an incredible resource for our community. This summer, we saw hundreds of families and young people come together to swim, share meals, and build connections in a safe and welcoming environment. We’re proud to partner with the City of Troy to make this space possible and look forward to many more successful seasons ahead.”

The City of Troy extends its gratitude to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area and all community partners for their collaboration in making the South Troy Pool a safe, enriching, and joyful space for all residents.
