Vacant Building Registry

The Troy City Council passed new legislation (§141-18 Unsafe Buildings) of the City Code to help the City of Troy more effectively deal with vacant buildings and the problems that vacant buildings present. As a result of this legislation, anyone who owns a vacant building (in the City of Troy) must register their vacant building.

Vacant Building Fees

The owner of a vacant building shall file a plan explaining how he/she will comply with §141-21 Vacant Building Plan and Fees of the City Code and shall pay an initial registration fee of $250. If the building remains vacant, each January 1st following the initial registration the owner shall pay an annual fee as follows:

Attention: Vacant building fees for buildings of 5,000 square feet or greater shall be doubled.

Vacant Building Waiver

Owners who are renovating, making frequent and documented efforts to sell property may be eligible to apply for a waiver of the annual fees above. The owner must complete the application process by October 1st in order to waive the following year's registration fee.
