About the Program

This free interactive Ten-week training program is designed to provide insight into law enforcement and a working knowledge of the values and operations of the Troy Police Department. Participants learn about the unique challenges faced by law enforcement as they take part in education and real-life scenarios that require split-second decision making. 

Taught by Troy Police Department personnel, instruction has been designed to inform students about various topics to include: 

  • Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law 
  • Investigations 
  • Professional Standards 
  • Community Policing 
  • K9 
  • Emergency Response Team 
  • Taser/Use of Force 
  • Active Attacker/Reality Based Training 
  • Mobile Command Center/Crisis Negotiating 

This Ten-week course begins on September 21, 2023, and continues each subsequent Thursday evening from 6pm – 9pm at the Troy Police Station, located at 55 State Street, Troy, N.Y. 12180. 

Troy's Citizen Police Academy is a unique opportunity to increase communication and understanding between citizens and police through education and hands on experience. 

This course is limited to those who live in or work in the City of Troy. Applicants should complete the application and return it to the Troy Police Department at 55 State Street, Troy NY 12180 or email the application to CPA@troyny.gov
