[ARCHIVED] UPDATED EMERGENCY ALERT: Substantial Water Main Break in Lansingburgh

IMG_5151

UPDATE:

TROY, N.Y. – The City of Troy has the following updates regarding the Lansingburgh water main break:

  • A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for the "Low Service Area," including Lansingburgh, Pleasantdale, North Central, Downtown, and South Troy neighborhoods (see map). A loss of water pressure increases the chance that untreated water and microbes will enter the system. The advisory is not mandatory;
  • This afternoon, Deputy Mayor Nolin issued an emergency declaration to mobilize all available City resources to address this water main break and its consequences;
  • The main break has been mostly isolated and the Department of Public Utilities has begun making repairs;
  • Residents are advised to conserve water until service is restored;
  • Check on your family and neighbors, especially seniors and those with disabilities.

The Department of Public Utilities, Department of Public Works, Engineering and other City departments are actively responding to a substantial water main break in Lansingburgh near 7th Ave and 124th St. On September 18, 2023, a 30" cast iron water main in 124th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues broke. The water main is one of the two major distribution lines flowing from the water treatment plant. As a major distribution line, impacts may be felt by consumers of Troy water beyond Lansingburgh.

Information will be shared as it becomes available.

After-school activities at the Lansingburgh School District are cancelled.

As DPU works to restore service, residents may experience service interruptions, including sputtering water, loss of water, loss of water pressure, discolored water, or more.

Neighbors should anticipate road closures and the potential for basement flooding.

Never drive through a flooded roadway.

For more information on the boil water advisory, please contact the City of Troy Department of Public Utilities at (518) 237-0241 or (518) 237-0611 after hours or the Rensselaer County Department of Health at 518-270-2655.
